The Art of War
Updated: Sep 26
I spent the past month designing the catalog for a special exhibition at the FDR Presidential Library & Museum, The Art of War: American Poster Art 1941-1945. The book features 150 World War II posters from the museum’s enormous collection. It was a privilege and an honor to spend time with these iconic works of art by some of the most important American illustrators and graphic artists. Many of the posters were created by the Office of War Information (OWI) and focus on serving on the “home front” through war bonds, scrap drives, civil defense and rationing. It’s incredible to consider the scope of this campaign—mobilizing over 12 million Americans to help in these war efforts. It was a fascinating project about a fascinating time in history.
